Parish Councils
The lay councils that serve each parish together with the priest.
In every parish, a council of lay faithful (ሽማግሌ ቤተክርስቲያን) works with the parish priest for the life of the community.
What the council does
Plans the life of the parish
Together with the parish priest: the pastoral year, the projects and the priorities.
Cares for the church
The church building, its property and its accounts.
Serves the community
The poor, the sick and the needs of the families.
Prepares the feasts
The feast of the patron saint and the life of prayer of the parish.

Chosen in each parish
Each parish or chapel forms its council in its own way, according to its needs, together with the parish priest.
Regular meetings
At least once a month, a regular meeting. On Sundays, and whenever there is an occasion, a short meeting.
Special meetings
For the annual report, to prepare the feast of the patron saint of the parish and to report on it afterwards, and whenever there is a need.
The statute and the parish guides
The Eparchy has a general statute for all parish councils. Each parish also has its own guide; ask your parish priest.
